Each year, Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout release is a milestone in barrel-aged beer culture. For this limited edition, Goose Island partnered with Dark Matter Coffee to create a collaborative variant that honors tradition while pushing into new territory.
The final packaging bridges Goose Island’s timeless heritage with Dark Matter’s cosmic edge. This resulted in a release that’s both instantly recognizable and refreshingly unexpected. The design invites fans into a world that feels equal parts tradition and adventure.
I drew on Dark Matter’s “out-of-this-world” visual language with psychedelic illustration, rich textures, and cosmic motifs. Then, I paired it with the strong, established Bourbon County framework.
The design process centered around three principles: respecting legacy, infusing Dark Matter’s voice, and creating a collectible experience.
